Objectives for the week of October 27

Objectives
Week of October 27 – 31
Language Arts:
• Learning to use evidence from the text while answering a literary response question
• Identify characters and how they will affect the plot
• Identify setting and how it affects the plot
• Read Chapters 13 - 20
• 2 Entries in your Character Quotes Journal
• 1 Entry in you Setting Quote Journal
• Learn how to write a Book Club Letter using evidence from the text.

Writing:
• Animal Narrative final typed draft – double spaced
• Write purposeful dialogue correctly using proper punctuation
• Use strong verbs
• Use descriptive language
• Be sure to use facts about your animal in your story
• Know how to “Color Edit” your story for good verbs and descriptive nouns.

Student Skills:
• Understand how to write dialogue with proper punctuation
• Edit writing, using “Color Edit”
• Understand Nouns and pronouns
• Use strong verbs and descriptive language in writing
• Understand verbs, and the difference between verbs and linking verbs, and helping verbs.

Social Studies:
• Understand the geography and how it affects the civilization of Egypt
• Understand why Egypt was the “Gift of the Nile”
• Understand the importance of the “Double Crown”
• Create a new flag combining US –Mexico or US - Canada

Science:
Plate Tectonics
• Explain the difference between continental crust and oceanic crust
• Identify and describe the layers of the Earth by what they are made
• of: crust, upper mantle, lower mantle, core
• Identify and describe the layers of the Earth by their physical
• properties: lithosphere, asthenosphere, mesosphere, outer core, inner core
• Define tectonic plate: Label the plates

Math:
Fraction Operations
• Understand how to add and subtract fractions and mixed numbers with like and unlike denominators
• Be able to simplify answers
• Estimate sums and differences of fractions and mixed numbers
