Objectives for the week of November 3

Objectives
Week of November 3 – 7

Language Arts:
• Learning to use evidence from the text while answering a literary response question
• Identify characters and how they will affect the plot
• Identify setting and how it affects the plot
• Read Chapters 21 – end of book
• 2 Entries in your Character Quotes Journal
• Write a Book Club Letter using evidence from the text.
• Revisit Plot Structure and how it connects to The Westing Game.

Writing:
• Animal Narrative final illustrated draft
• Understand the structure of a 5 paragraph essay.

Student Skills:
• Know the difference between action verbs, linking verbs, and helping verbs.
• Know the different tenses for verbs: past present and future.
• Know the rules for conjugating verbs

Social Studies:
• Pick an artifact to research – resources due on Friday – at least one book.
• Understand the similarities and differences between Mt. View and the House of Life (Scribe School)
• Understand the importance of the Egyptian Gods
• Describe the earliest uses of Egyptian writing

Science:
• Describe Wegener's theory of continental drift
• Explain the process of sea-floor spreading and the evidence that sea-floor spreading occurs.
• Describe how new oceanic crust forms at the mid-ocean ridges.

Math:
• Understand how to add and subtract fractions and mixed numbers with like and unlike denominators
• Be able to simplify answers
• Estimate sums and differences of fractions and mixed numbers
• Understand how to multiply and divide fractions and mixed numbers.
• Understand properties of multiplication
